It's kindergarten time!

Your child is 5? Yay! It is time to go to kindergarten, the real start of school life. Most children and parents are excited to begin and get involved in the world of learning. Thus, some parents may worry about whether or not their children are going to get along at school. Children have different personalities: some of them are naturally social and the others need a lot of pushes to harmonize socially. Such pushes come from teachers and parents. This entry is dedicated to parents who could use some tips to take away their anxiety and be associated with their children’s new experience.

Before kindergarten starts, parents should stay with their child and explain what is going to happen in school and find out what the expectations are.  They also ought to discuss the coming weekly routine and rules like when they need to go to bed, how long they can watch TV , and what are healthy breakfast options. The child needs to know important things. For instance, memorizing his or her full name, his parent’s phone number, and how he or she will get to school. This conversation and sharing thoughts would relieve both the child and the parents.

When school begins, the parent can show his care not only in preparing breakfast or choosing the child’s clothes, he or she can also share the school day with his child by helping out in the classroom if there is a free time--teachers never refuse help. Parents can go as a special guest to the child’s class and talk about what he planned to talk about such as your culture, occupation, or something about the child. All of these suggestions may not work for a busy parent. Therefore, if the parents are too busy to participate in their child’s school they should do their responsibilities at home to be effective in their kid’s new life.

Every day, when the child comes home from school, the parent has to ask him some questions and encourage him to talk about school and explain what he did. If he learned a new song, the parent should try to sing it with him. If there is a new story, he or she should connect it with the real world in an understood way.  Kindergarten is the start of the writing phase , parents ought to benefit this and place papers everywhere, so if there is an opportunity, they could write the letters with their child in a fun way. And always the parent must show their child that their work is appreciated and deserves to be complimented and posted on the refrigerator (Reading Rockets, 2008).

Parents have the most significant role in their child’s character. Research shows that children whose parents are more involved in their school life and  education in general earn higher grades, higher scores in standardized tests, and more able to attend universities (School Family, 2008). However, if parents believe that children are the best investment in life, they will achieve with them the top peaks.

  1. I think most children will go smoothly in the kindergarten as they will enjoy playing and spending time with their peers. But If they didn't, parents must work closely with them even if they have busy life.

  2. Agree. It is necessary for parents to talk with kindergarten child because communication make their bond deeper. However, unfortunately, some children are not taken care of well. For example, Fatherless or motherless child can't spend such time :(

  3. This reminded me of my first days at school. I was a very shy little boy and it was far from easy for me to make friends. But, thanks to my parents and some really good teachers, after a while, I was proudly riding my bike over to friend's houses to hang out.

It also made me think about the fact that my son will be starting school in a couple of years. I think he's inherited some of my shyness. We'll definitely have to work with him and his teachers using some of these strategies to make sure he can harmonize socially with his other classmates.

It seems that you're implementing some of my advice about avoiding overstatements. Well done!

My only suggestion for the future is to include creative tips for things that parents can do to help their kids out at school. People love to hear fun and creative ideas. You might want to check out pinterest.com. I honestly can't think of any example right now, but maybe other readers will be able to come up with something.

    Keep it up!

  6. In kindergarten I were a troublemaker, I even had my own gang lol. On the other hand, when I went to school I weren't social at all.
